Vav Jungle - Zig-a-dig
(Kidnap Hairdo, 1997)
Formed in 1990 to
create "an artistic soundscape melded with dream imagery and mental
fusion" Vav Jungle is the brain child of Canadian musician Eve Rice.
After a couple of years of performances and experimentation the debut
CD Zig-a-dig was released in 1997, featuring Eve along with a host of
guest musicians. Vav Jungle's mixture of lounge, easy listening, disco
and quirky lyrics works pretty well most of the time.
One moment the synthesizer backings remind you of 1980s new wave, the
next moment you think you're listening to Japanese pop from the late
90s, but all along there is a very pleasant "retro-kitsch" feel - and
we mean that in the most positive way!
