The Thurston Lava Tube - Me Ka Nahuku [Cordelia Records, 2002]
But wait, this one's different.
They don't play Misirlou or Pipeline (at least not on this CD). They're not even from the USA, but from Britain.
Me Ka Nahuku, their debut album, brings us a healthy dose of Beatles
tunes - including surprising versions of Revolution 9 and Free as a
bird - with one Frank Zappa cover thrown in as well. The results are
great!
The Thurston Lava Tube has all an instro band should have: twangy
guitars, a groovy organ and pounding drums. They sound authentic
without sounding too "retro", they can rock it out, but the
arrangements are sublte enough to warrant repeated listening. Check
'em out, you won't be disappointed.
