For Your Ears: Gummy Soul – Fela Soul

– September 16, 2011Posted in: For Your Ears, Free downloads

What do you get when you put together afrobeat legend Fela Kuti and rap pioneers De La Soul? You get Fela Soul; a musical tapestry created by Gummy Soul artist Amerigo Gazaway.

More than just a clever title, Fela Soul is an 8-track, 33 minute journey into the world of afrobeat rhythms, funky horn riffs, and classic hip-hop gems. Using dozens of hand-picked samples from the Nigerian instrumentalist and political figure Fela Kuti, and 8 carefully-chosen acapellas from the Native Tongue rap trio De La Soul, Amerigo seamlessly intertwines the two into something completely new and original.

For Your Ears: Uzi Ramirez – Lick My Heart

– June 20, 2011Posted in: For Your Ears, Free downloads

Uzi Ramirez is an iconic musician in the Israeli indie scene. A session guitarist and a member of Israeli bands Boom Pam and the Ramirez Brothers and overall a brilliant musician.

Uzi was a member of Boom Pam, a Balkan-rock band, signed to Essay Recordings and has toured the world extensively, playing in Europe, U.S.A, Canada, Mexico and Africa in clubs and on festivals.

While in Boom Pam, Uzi formed The Ramirez Brothers with two friends. With one album and an E.P. they gained recognition and acclaim in Israel’s indie scene, performing all over the country and have toured Europe several times.

In October 2010, he Uzi released “Lick My Heart”, his first solo album, which he composed, wrote and produced. The album features guest musicians from such bands as Funknstein, Boom Pam, Izabo, the Apples and the Collective.

On behalf of Uzi we offer your two free tracks from his album:
Uzi Ramirez – Confide In Me
Uzi Ramirez – She’s So Young

For Your Ears: Moses Luster and the Hollywood Lights – I’m The Lion

– May 12, 2011Posted in: For Your Ears, Free downloads, New releases

We’ve dug up another album on Bandcamp, for your ears: “I’m The Lion” by Moses Luster and the Hollywood Lights.

Low life crooks, doomed love affairs and a haunted past populate the lyrics whilst drummer Shaggy Jones and keyboard player Declan Swoosh beat their instruments into unwilling submission to create broken-down, lumbering beasts of backing tracks. The ghosts of Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and even William Shatner are all present but, whilst the music may make nods to these artists, the sound is something quite new.

Beck Handing Out Acoustic Tracks From His Latest Album

– July 14, 2009Posted in: Free downloads, General news

Modern Guilt, Beck’s latest album has been out for over a year now. It has inspired him to give us acoustic tracks from the original recordings.

In his own words:

“Modern Guilt was released one year ago this week! For the occasion we are putting up acoustic versions of the entire album recorded earlier this year after returning from the Japan tour (under severe jet lag). Tracks will be released weekly starting with this rendition of Orphans. There will be a limited ep of four tracks from the session available soon. We’ll also be putting up all the promotional videos from the album this week in the new section, Videotheque.”
