Moondog 90th Birthday Tribute with Robert Scotto Wednesday, May 24th, Noon - 3pm on Irwin Chusid's show, http://wfmu.org:
He was blind, dressed in ancient Viking regalia, and slept on 6th Avenue during the 1950s. And he was a musical genius. Irwin Chusid and guest Robert Scotto pay tribute to the majestic Moondog from noon to 1 pm on May 24, two days before what would have been the late musician's 90th birthday. Hear recordings from the 1950s to the 1990s. Strange sounds and exotic beauty by one of the most underappreciated American composers of the 20th century. He recorded with animals, self-made instruments, and tugboat horns. He composed percussion pieces, chamber music, and works for 25 saxophones. Moondog wasn't "sort of like" anybody - he was an original. Guest Robert Scotto, an assistant professor of literary studies at Baruch College, is writing the first full-length biography of Moondog.
