On March 7, Capitol Records/EMI Music Catalog Marketing will release The Best Of Martin Denny's Exotica, an 18-track CD that culls the best of the late Martin Denny's singular sound. A pioneer in the musical genres of Polynesian-infused exotica and space-age pop, Denny crafted a worldly sound that brought laid-back Hawaiian rhythm and vibe to an enthusiastic mainland The CD's lush digipak packaging features original Denny album art, specially-commissioned artwork by noted Tiki artist Michael Uhlenkott, rare family photos and memorabilia, and liner notes penned by Denny's daughter, Christina. The Best Of Martin Denny's Exotica also includes a previously unreleased bonus interview track!

Lenny Dee, who was "Mr. Entertainment" on the Pinellas beaches for more than three decades, died Sunday (Feb. 12, 2006) at home under hospice care. He was 83.
In his great days on the local scene, beginning in the 1950s, the veteran organist and singer known for his campy humor and off-color jokes grew into a legend.

His musical reputation stretched far beyond the Suncoast. A one-time performer with Jimmy Dorsey, Lenny Dee in his heyday in the '50s, '60s and '70s appeared on such national TV programs as The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show with Jack Paar and the Lawrence Welk Show.
A Nashville recording artist, Lenny Dee sold more than a million copies in the 1950s of the hit song he wrote, Plantation Boogie, and covered hundreds of pop and country standards for MCA Records.

Harry Merry is in the midst of recording his new album. The title of the album will be The Shunt and it will be released late March. Harry will tour Europe (France, Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia) in april. Confirmed date: April 7 in Nantes France at the festival IDEAL.

◦ Wednesday, February 08, 2006 ◦
Saxophonist Elton Dean, born in 1945 and best known as a member of the pioneering British jazz/rock formation Soft Machine, passed away in a London hospital last night.
Dean can be heard on Soft Machine's studio albums Third (1970), Fourth (1971) and 5 (1972), as well as many radio sessions and European tours, resulting in later archive albums such as Peel Sessions.
